Later, continue to visit the National Museum, which houses Khmer art and sculptures of 19th-century dance costumes, royal barges, and palanquins from different periods of Cambodian history.

These temples provide a beautiful example of the Pre-Angkorian art in the 7th century. More than a hundred temples in luxuriant vegetation are in ruins and sustained by roots as wood sculptures.
After your visit, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before we continue toward Siem Reap. Upon arrival, you will transfer directly to the hotel for check-in and have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day03.jpg
Day 4

Siem Reap

After breakfast, you will depart for a visit to the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom—last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the stunning Bayon temple. This 12th century masterpiece lies at the very center of Angkor Thom and is an archaeological wonder of symmetry and grandeur.
Continue your morning exploration with a visit to Ta Prohm, the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles. It is one of the largest temples at Angkor, dedicated in 1186.
Enjoy a few hours at leisure to have lunch on your own before we depart for a boat trip to visit the floating village at Kampong Phluk. This area is a cluster of three villages of stilted houses built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap southeast of Siem Reap. Flooded forest surrounds the area and is home to a variety of wildlife, including crab-eating macaques.

Day04.jpg
Day 5

Siem Reap

After breakfast at the hotel, we depart to visit Banteay Srei, ‘the Citadel of Women’. This tiny, enchanting temple is a jewel of this remarkable city. Built of red sandstone in the tenth century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, the carved male and female figures in the niches are exquisitely executed in both style and proportion. This is the most Indian of all the temples in Angkor and in the words of H.W. Ponder, is “a fairy palace in the heart of an immense and mysterious forest.”
You will continue with a visit to the Cambodia Landmine Museum. The museum was built in 1997 by a former Khmer Rouge child soldier, Aki Ra. Founded at his home on a quiet dirt road just outside Siem Reap, he created the Museum under shanty-styled huts to house his collection of decommissioned mines and other explosive remnants of war that he had cleared throughout the country since 1995.
You will continue to Banteay Samre. This Hindu temple was built under Suryavarman II and Yasovarman II in the early 12th century, and named after the Samré, an ancient people of Indochina.
Enjoy a few hours to explore and have lunch on your own before we make our way to Angkor Wat. As the largest temple in the world, the volume of stone used to build it equals that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples because it faces west and was inspired by 12th Century Hinduism. Conceived by Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat took about 30 years to build and is believed to have been a funeral temple for the king.
Following the afternoon tour, enjoy a few hours of leisure at the hotel before dinner at a local restaurant.
Optional service:
Morning Half-Day Adventure Tour at the Flight of the Gibbons
After their tremendous success in Thailand, where Flight of the Gibbons has built its famous zipline courses in the most remote and beautiful rainforests, they are finally arriving in Siem Reap.
